Meet Your Coach
I’m Ben Combes — a former Detective Constable, a Personal Trainer and founder of Four Pillar Fitness.
I built this method through years of balancing demanding shift work with structured training, including completing the London Marathon while staying strong, mobile, and healthy.
My coaching focuses on structure, consistency, and habits — not hype or short-term fixes — so people build fitness that actually fits their life.
Why I created Four Pillar Fitness
Most fitness programs fail people because they focus on just one dimension:

I created Four Pillar Fitness to build all-round healthy humans — strong, mobile, resilient, energetic, and properly fuelled — by training strength, cardio, flexibility, and nutrition together.
My Coaching Philosophy

I believe in habit building — step by step, brick by brick, pillar by pillar.
When strong habits are built around training, nutrition, movement, and consistency, results become automatic. You stop relying on motivation and start relying on structure.

Even though I’ve known for a while that I need to start working out, making the first move is so difficult. As somebody who really thrives on external motivation and feedback, working out on my own is something I used to dread. Not knowing what to do, how to do it…and crucially whether my efforts were actually benefitting me. Before joining Four Pillar Fitness I was doing home workouts, which I had seen good progress particularly on my upper. I always felt that I struggled to train my legs at home, doing sets of many squats felt tedious and I felt I could hardly train my hamstrings at all.
I wanted be able to train my legs more and I knew going to gym would be preferable for although I was unsure how to use the equipment as I had never been to the gym before.
Ben showed my how to use the gym equipment and gave my a training plan for the gym, home workouts and cardio. Not only did I see the benefits of being able to attend the gym, his workout plan for my home routine was also better then what I was doing before.
My overall strength as improved in a short time, this has been reflected in the weight scale, I have already gained 2kg in muscle in a short time. I feel that his workout plans have been much better than I could have come up with myself even I had good experience.
I'd recommend Four Pillar Fitness to anyone, Ben's given me the confidence to go to the gym and also greatly improved on my home workouts.
Checking in weekly with Ben has also kept me accountable, which has helped (especially with cardio).

I came to Four Pillar Fitness because I wanted to tone up and get fitter for playing padel. Specifically running to the net.
I have always been reasonably fit but didn’t realise how much I’d let slip from not having a structured routine. For me that means visibly feeling better in my clothes; stronger in my body and fitter on the padel court. I do yoga regularly and eat well so felt that those pillars were a good starting point.
I have really enjoyed the 121 sessions - a good mix of challenge and support and Ben’s general manner is fabulous - must be his police training! The follow up calls also help me stay accountable and set new goals.
What has improved: strength; tone - almost have some guns and overall fitness. My clothes fit better and I feel better in myself.

A busy life meant I was not making time for any physical activity aside from some infrequent cardio which was too inconsistent to help me feel any meaningful difference, and I wasn’t doing any weight training.
I wanted to get back into routine fitness, for the good of my cardiovascular health as well as look and feel more trim.
I hadn’t trained in a gym for nearly 10 years and I wanted help with defining a program and safely returning to regular exercise, minimising the chances of injuring myself through poor form.

I mostly struggled with consistency before I started my sessions and due to this also lacking results from my workouts as some weeks I would be really productive and the next not so much and so on. I also struggled to build a routine I enjoyed and sometimes felt like I was just hopping from each machine when I would go to the gym.
I wanted to build a consistent plan that was realistic for me but would also keep me motivated and help me work towards my fitness goals.
I have really enjoyed training with Ben; he keeps me motivated and pushes me to achieve PB’s when I do my weekly sessions. My workouts are tailored to exercises I enjoy the most and I really like how they are full body workouts so that I am keeping consistent with everything, it makes it so much more manageable with my day to day this way as well.
I have noticed my strength has improved significantly since training with Ben, I have also started seeing physical results as well, for example my arms look a lot more toned! I am consistently hitting PB’s each week which is proof that I am getting stronger and I have noticed that I am able to run for longer periods of time due to my one cardio session each week when I previously really struggled with any form of cardio so I am excited to keep getting better!

I’d always been into my fitness but injuries and bad habits slowly took over to the point I wasn’t happy but yet struggled to keep motivation and consistently to go back to the gym. I’d have 1 week of feeling motivated and be like I’m going to do this and this only to fall back into the same old bad habits, as it was “too tough”.
Consistency and motivation was my biggest problem that I wanted solving. I knew what to do but could never create a structure that I could keep and maintain without then going back to drinking most weekends and ordering takeout.
It’s been amazing training with Ben. I have a structured training program that I can follow that has got everything there all I need to do is turn up and do it. I also enjoy that I have weekly sessions with him to help me go above and push for that extra rep or higher weight, which pushes me on more.
If I don’t do the program I feel like I’m letting Ben down and wasting his time but also letting myself down, which helped at the start give me the fuel to go out and complete the program. Now I’m increasing my goals and targets which seemed a long way away at the start.
Since joining I’ve noticed my strength and enjoyment for fitness come back to me and the will power to keep wanting to improve and achieve my goals. I’ve hit PB’s in such a short amount of time that I would never have expected that and that’s down to the incredible coaching I receive.
I could not recommend FourPillarFitness enough. Having the structure and accountability in place has really helped get back into a good place physically and mentally and already noticing results within 2 months which is motivating me to push even harder. I would highly recommend FourPillarFitness!
